WorkFirst Parent Completes a Nursing Degree at Wenatchee Valley College
December 2007 — On December 6th, 2007, Veniece Ceballos received her R.N. pin. Veniece is a single parent of 4 children, ages 16, 10, 7 and 6 years old. With the determination and drive to one day be a nurse, Venice began her studies by acquiring her High School diploma and beginning the required pre-requisites for the nursing program in the fall of 2003. Veniece started the nursing program in March 2006. She was able to fund her studies with federal financial aid, work study, various scholarship’s and WorkFirst Tuition Assistance.
North Snohomish County LPA - Limited English Proficient (LEP) Family Success Story
August 2007 — Binti, Salat and their 3 children arrived in the United States as refugees in 2004. They were part of the Somali, Bantu population who came to the US from refugee camps in Africa. Salat and Binti were illiterate in their own language, never having had the opportunity to attend school in their own country, so you can imagine the challenge of learning the English language in addition to the culture shock of moving from rural life in Africa to urban life in America. 
New Career at State Board for Community and Technical Colleges
Spring 2007 — Nanette Angel has had many careers. In her last one she was a cosmetologist in Bellingham. She worked in a salon where she helped men and women suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatment or other health conditions. She loved fitting people with hairpieces that looked so natural other people couldn’t tell they weren’t real. But she had to give it up after having foot surgery. Her doctor told her the long hours of standing would be too much for her.
