WorkFirst Parent Completes a Nursing Degree at Wenatchee Valley College
On December 6th, 2007, Veniece Ceballos received her R.N. pin. Veniece is a single parent of 4 children, ages 16, 10, 7 and 6 years old. With the determination and drive to one day be a nurse, Venice began her studies by acquiring her High School diploma and beginning the required pre-requisites for the nursing program in the fall of 2003. Veniece started the nursing program in March 2006. She was able to fund her studies with federal financial aid, work study, various scholarship’s and WorkFirst Tuition Assistance.
During the spring of 2007 she had to have major surgery, which at one point threatened her chances of completing the L.P.N. program. Through sheer determination, Veniece managed to continue school so that her dream of becoming a nurse could become a reality.
Balancing her WorkFirst requirements, parenting and education was a challenge but through the support of her case manager and staff at Wenatchee Valley College, Veniece was able to graduate with her R.N. degree.
Her next goal is to pass her state board exams. Once she passes her exams there will be many job opportunities available that pay high wages and offer many benefits. Veniece long-term goal is to one day return to school to become a Nurse Practitioner.
Veniece is grateful for the support and love of her family, her children, her instructors and the WorkFirst program for making her dreams possible.
