Photo of office workerWashington businesses continue to be a key WorkFirst partner by providing the kinds of employment opportunities families need to go to work and take better care of their children. The following are some ways WorkFirst is helping businesses find, grow and retain workers!

  • Matching employer needs with job seekers.
  • Providing on-the-job (OJT) opportunities where employers can be reimbursed up to 50 percent of the employee's wages during the formal training period.
  • Creating opportunities where employers can meet face-to-face with job seekers at Job Fairs and Hiring Events.
  • Paying for customized, short-term training at low or no cost to the employer.
  • Providing tuition assistance to pay for wage progression training so employees can advance up the wage ladder.
  • Providing basic education and/or English as a Second Language (ESL) to employees.
  • Continuing to provide supports to parents once they have gone to work like emergency car repairs, child care, transportation assistance, and transitional food and medical benefits.
  • Providing additional income to those parents who have left TANF and are working 30 or more hours per week through the Career Services Program.

Tax Credits for Business — Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) saves up to $2,400 a year when you hire an employee from eight targeted groups; and apply for eligibility within 21 days of the start date. The Welfare-to-Work Tax Credit can save up to $8,500 over two years when you hire a worker who has been on welfare for at least 18 months and worked at least 180 days each year.
